About MahjCove — From My Family’s Table to a Table of Friends
I’m Alice Zhang, the founder and designer behind MahjCove. I grew up in China, where mahjong was part of family life.
My family loves mahjong. I learned by sitting beside the adults and watching. Every holiday, my family gathered around the table to play and catch up. After college, I finally joined them.
It was never just about winning. It was the game, the tea, and the talking around it.
How MahjCove Began
A friend taught me American Mahjongg.
After moving to the US, a friend taught me American Mahjongg. I’d played mahjong for years, but I still had to learn an entirely new set of rules.
I also loved the design details. The vibrant tiles and patterned mats caught my eye. It was fun seeing how unique each set could look, depending on the colors and accessories a player picks.
I started MahjCove to create stylish, practical mahjong accessories—rooted in my Chinese background, shaped by my design training in Italy, and made for the way people play American Mahjongg.
We’re starting with mats and bags, each piece built to fit the American Mahjongg set you already own. I look for materials that feel good on the table, patterns that sit well beside your set, and details that make setup and storage easy.
